Burton Croft Surgery is taking part in a health service initiative to reduce premature death and disability in Leeds from cardiovascular conditions, such as heart disease, strokes, chronic kidney and circulatory disease.
If you are aged between 40 -74 years you may get a letter to attend a NHS health check at the surgery with either with one of our HCAs or nurses. Appointments take approximately half an hour, and can be booked any week day between 8am and 4pm.
The comprehensive check that normally includes a blood test to check for raised cholesterol and blood sugar levels enables us to identify health factors that may be putting our patients at greater risk of developing future health problems.
Patients are offered advice and support by the nursing team, in relation to any health risks that are identified by these checks

Especially if you are visiting countries outside Europe. Burton Croft has a team of nurses experienced in travel health that can offer you comprehensive travel advice tailored to your individual needs. Key things to remember are to attend well in advance (at least a month before departure) to insure you have time to get any courses of injections and any anti-malarials required. There is no charge for information and advice provided in our Travel Clinic, however not all vaccinations and medication are provided free by the NHS. If there are charges our nurse's will advise you.
We offer a specialized sport's injury clinic run by a GP with extensive experience in treating sprains, ligament and joint injuries. We are happy to participate in sport report examinations towards your placements and perform the Camp America examination, for your fun summer away!
Our team at Burton Croft understand the stress and strains of moving away from home for the first time. The financial and academic pressures of being a student can lead to anxiety and depression. Our GP's and counsellor's are there to listen and advice on how best to treat your feelings and thoughts, so you can begin living like a happy and confident student again.
Studies have shown that students are more likely to drink, smoke and take drugs more than the general public. Students that smoke can be fooled into thinking smoking helps ease the stresses of exams and pressures of deadlines. However medical evidence has shown that smoking does not calm your feelings down, it is in fact nicotine cravings between cigarettes that make you feel stressed and anxious, so when you have one you feel temporarily calm. You should feel less stressed once you have quit and no longer crave nicotine. We have a smoking cessation clinic where we will tailor stop smoking methods to suit your needs. With regular appointments that check the carbon dioxide in your body, and support and advice you should successfully stop smoking with us.
It is really important to have a doctor's surgery at university or college especially if you have an ongoing health condition such as diabetes, asthma or epilepsy. At Burton Croft we provide comprehensive support and management of on-going health conditions so that you can get on with your studies.
