Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why do I need a medication review?

We request patients have a medication review annually. The aim of the medication review is to check that you are prescribed the most appropriate medicines and that you get the best out of those medicines. We usually book these appointments in with a clinical pharmacist.

You may need blood tests before this appointment depending on the type of medication you take or as part of your long term condition review.

All new patients that are taking repeat medication are required to make an appointment with the practice Pharmacist for a medication review before we are able to prescribe any previous prescriptions.

How can I get help with my prescription costs?

You can save money with a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC). There are 3 options to buy: 3 months, 12 months or a HRT prepayment certificate. You find out more here: Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC)

You may also be eligible for free NHS prescriptions and any help with other NHS costs, including sight tests and NHS dental treatment. Check what help you could get to pay for NHS costs

I need a prescription urgently, but you’re closed. What do I do?

Go to a pharmacy

Find a local pharmacy that’s still open and ask them to issue you an emergency prescription. They will usually issue you 7 days worth of medication.

Contact 111

Call 111 or use their website: NHS 111 online. They’ll ask some questions, including where you are and when you are due to take your medicine so they can suggest the best way to get it.

How do I raise a query about my medication?

Send us the query via online request here or telephone the surgery on 01132744777. You may be booked in to speak to a clinical pharmacist or a pharmacy technician in order to resolve the issue or to help answer any queries.

How do I return unwanted or out of date medication?

We ask that our patients do not hang on to medications if they are no longer needed and to please drop them in to a local pharmacy for safe disposal. Please do not bring them into the practice to dispose of.

If you have been given injections or needles that need disposing of and were not issued a sharps bin/box, please ask us to prescribe one. We are unable to take injections or needles without them being in a sharps bin/box.

If you have any queries regarding medication you may have at home, please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will help.

How can I get Emergency Contraception?

It’s best to act quickly after having unprotected sex (within the first 24 hours) however there are forms of Emergency Contraception that can be accessed for up to five days after.
