How can I get Contraception?

The NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service

This service allows patients to access a range of contraceptive methods directly from your pharmacy, without the need for a GP appointment. This service includes consultations with trained pharmacists who can prescribe and provide contraception, including the pill and patches. It’s a convenient and confidential option for those seeking contraception, making it easier to access safe, reliable contraception.

Leeds Sexual Health

You can now request contraception from Leeds Sexual Health via their digital hub. If you are sure of the method you would like, you can request:

  • Contraceptive Pills (new and repeat)
  • Patch (new and repeat)
  • Vaginal Ring (new and repeat)
  • Sayana Press Injection (repeat only)

You will need to fill in a health questionnaire which will be reviewed by one of the clinical staff who will make sure the method is safe for you. They might need to call you for more information, so only submit your information if you are happy to receive an unscheduled call from an unrecognised number.

If the requested method is considered safe, we will then prescribe your medication electronically and you can pick this up from your local pharmacy*. There is an option for your medication to be posted which is detailed on the form.

Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives

We offer Long acting reversible contraceptives at the practice. Please contact us to be added to a short waiting list and we will contact you to book appointments. More information can be found on our LARC clinic page here.

Contraceptive Pill Checks

If you are taking a contraceptive pill (both combined or progestogen only) you will need a review also known as a pill check at least once a year. This usually includes weight, height, blood pressure, and a review of any problems or concerns you may have with the medication.

A free pill check can be done at your chosen pharmacy. The pharmacy will send us the consultation details to add into your record. The pharmacy can now continue prescribing your prescription so you do not have to request the medication from us.
